MSU Budget

The following is intended to provide the MSU community with current information regarding the development of the 2008-09 University budget. It includes information from both MSU and the state of Michigan. Questions may be forwarded to budget@msu.edu.

 

  • (June 13, 2008) 2008-09 Board of Trustee Action Item- 2008-09 Budget attached here Detailed proposal for MSU's 2008-09 general fund budget as approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees.
  • (June 13, 2008) Budget planning concludes today with passage of the 2008-09 general fund budget by the Board of Trustees. A presentation discussing the significant budget categories and their effect on tuition is attached here.
  • (May 16, 2008) Budget planning continues with updates of key revenue and expenditure variables.  Ongoing discussion points include the impact of today’s Revenue Conference on appropriation support; estimates of increasing utility costs; and financial aid requirements. A brief presentation is attached here.

  • (April 16, 2008) A brief presentation highlighting MSU's planning for the 2008-09 budget is attached here. The presentation details the context, history and major components of the MSU general fund budget.
  • (April 16, 2008) A template for MSU's budget development guidelines is attached here. This document outlines the various revenue and expense elements of the budget and lays out the basis for any increase that might be experienced in the 2008-09 fiscal year.
  • (March 25, 2008) The Michigan Senate passed SB-1099 (attached here) today establishing MSU's appropriation for the 2008-09 academic year. The bill provides a three percent increase in funding over 2007-08..
  • (February 29, 2008) Recently, the Senate Finance Committee surveyed the nation's largest and most prominent institutions about the management practices of their long-term investment portfolio. MSU's response (attached here) responds to the questions from the committee and stresses the importance of a university's endowment as a tool for preserving quality and constraining tuition increases now and in the future.
